The article concludes by analysing the final report of the «strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture» and explores some key ideas for the post-2028 CAP.
Albert Massot Copyright (c) 2024 Albert Massot https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21356 Mon, 23 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0100 Investment funds in the Spanish agri-food sector: building global platforms https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21237
This study analyses the operations of investment funds in the Spanish agri-food sector in recent years, as well as the transformations they have promoted. Taking as a frame of reference the strategies of this type of investment funds and their embodiment in the investee companies, we explain the meaning of the transformations they have driven and how they are building global platforms.
Jordi Rosell, Lourdes Viladomiu, Victòria Soldevila Copyright (c) 2024 Jordi Rosell, Lourdes Viladomiu, Victoria Soldevila https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21237 Mon, 23 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0100 Sustainability in the Portuguese agricultural sector: Assessment and multicriteria approach https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21568
Based on data available between 2016 and 2021 from the Portuguese FADN, fifteen sustainable indicators were measured, and a compromise programming model was designed to balance environmental and economic objectives, that reveal a conflict between them. The findings identified solutions dominated by dried fruits, olive trees, sheep and goats, extensive horticulture, and beef cattle for sustainable farming planning at the national level. We conclude that the complementary between these two approaches constitute an important instrument for supporting decision-making and developing public policies focused on current sustainability paradigms.
Ana Marta-Costa Copyright (c) 2024 Ana Marta-Costa https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21568 Mon, 23 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0100 Situation and challenges of digital isolation in rural Spanish areas https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21176
Digitalization and ICTs improve rural life in Spain, yet the digital divide persists, affecting youth, the elderly, the unemployed, and women most acutely. Limited access and ICT skills create inequalities compared to urban areas. This study assesses the divide through 408 rural surveys and the PLS-SEM model, analyzing 27 questions that show how socioeconomic factors influence unequal ICT access. Results highlight an urgent need for policies to address these technological disparities in rural areas, aiming for more equitable digital inclusion.
Hayet Kerras, Francisca Rosique Contreras, Susana Bautista, Maria Dolores de-Miguel Gómez Copyright (c) 2024 Hayet Kerras, Francisca Rosique Contreras, Susana Bautista, Maria Dolores de-Miguel Gómez https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21176 Mon, 23 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0100 Analysis of EU investment on rural development and its impact on Portuguese rural regions in the period 2011-2021 https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21501
EU's rural areas are an essential part of the European way of life, covering more than 75 % of the Union's territory and housing over 25 % of its population. However, they experience major imbalances compared to urban areas. Thus, it is important to analyse whether EU's rural development (RD) policy is effective in promoting the development of rural areas. This study uses a RD index for 9 Portuguese NUTS 3 regions, with data from 2011 and 2021. The results are then compared with the financial support delivered by EU funds and show their impact on RD in Portugal.
Isabel Abreu, Joaquim Mourato, Francisco J. As part of the European Atlantic POSitiVE project, we conducted a survey of 151 beekeeping units in 2021 on the practices associated with its control in Galicia. Taking the data to the whole population (complex sample), we have estimated that the costs of control are between the14 % and the 21 % of the production value. We present an analysis by provinces and by methods of control.
Ana Isabel García-Arias, María Amparo Ferreira-Golpe, Ibán Vázquez-González Copyright (c) 2024 Ana Isabel García-Arias, María Amparo Ferreira-Golpe, Ibán Vázquez-González https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21401 Mon, 23 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0100 A qualitative study on the perceptions on short food supply chains through focus groups with producers and consumers https://www.polipapers.upv.es/index.php/EARN/article/view/21461
The research analyses consumer perceptions of short food marketing channels (SFSCs) and the challenges for producers. Using a qualitative approach, 12 focus groups were conducted in different Spanish towns and cities, which allowed for the identification of advantages of SFSCs, such as product quality and personalised treatment. However, a significant lack of awareness among consumers was detected, especially in urban areas. Producers highlight the need for public support and effective strategies to improve visibility and overcome the challenges of direct marketing, highlighting the capacity of the SFSCs to revitalise trade.
Francisco J. The value per kilogram of this vegetable fat with differentiated quality presents, however, a high dispersion depending on the geographical location of the territory in which it is produced.
