Abstract:

Research in architecture and architectural design is out of place in the leading scientific circles due to its particular position between the technical and artistic fields. Its contributions are often blurred or undervalued by reducing them to something merely experimental or essayistic. This article presents various lines and techniques of research, the classical and the most current, starting from their ontological and epistemological character to assess their projections, limitations, and the various states of knowledge that can be obtained from them: from the accumulation of tacit knowledge that characterizes the architectural project to the factors of its conversion into explicit knowledge so that it can be codified, discussed and socialized, from the originality and relevance of the specific topics of the area of expertise to those that are outside it and that somehow can be absorbed in a transversal, productive and creative way. This article aims to prove the validity and potential of research in architecture to promote theoretical and practical advances that impact the built environmentof these emerging forms in their development, and contribution as alternative models of contemporary public space.
