Abstract:
Conceiving architectural design as a way of exploring the reality inherent to architecture is a current issue in the disciplinary debate. However, this form of research does not seem to find the appropriate fit within academic contexts where the formulation of hypotheses, the presentation of results, and the evaluation of processes appear to be heavily influenced by the procedures of other fields of knowledge. This text traces the state of the art and synthetically highlights the similarities and differences that several authors have identified between research conducted in those fields and architecture. Relying on the classification of research in, for, and through, it compiles an open-ended list of methods that can be applied to generate knowledge in architecture, both by adopting dynamics specific to the academic context and by incorporating others more closely related to professional practice.
