Abstract:
The articles in VLC#12.1 address the complexity and richness of contemporary architectural design from different perspectives: the question of ornament and its connection to structure; architecture's resistance to being considered a mere capitalist commodity; experiences of citizen participation in transforming public space in Valencia; problems of copying and authorship in the work of Mies; the historical design processes of Spanish late Gothic architecture; issues of time and prefabrication in the work of B. Fuller; and the study of passive strategies for acoustic control in public buildings. These are all topics that inspire a critical will that reclaims architecture as an intellectual, technical, cultural, and social practice.
