La lectura extensiva (LE) ha sacado a relucir el papel primordial que desempeña el acto de leer en el aprendizaje de una segunda lengua. La amplia difusión de programas de lectura extensiva en las aulas de lenguas extranjeras en Japón durante las últimas décadas ha originado el desarrollo de plataformas especializadas en libros digitales. Aunque la conveniencia de tales libros es indiscutible, poca atención han recibido los posibles perjuicios de la lectura en este formato para el proceso de aprendizaje. Mediante un estudio de caso de las experiencias de dos estudiantes, el presente artículo pretende ilustrar algunas de las desventajas y de los riesgos de la lectura de libros digitales, particularmente en teléfonos móviles, en los programas de lectura extensiva.
